New Zealand
XAIO is coming to New Zealand.
Books first: 15% GST, the New Zealand chart of accounts, a 31 March balance date, in New Zealand dollars. Payroll is being built next. Tell us you are interested and we will bring you on as each piece lands. No card, no account created.
Ready now
The books already speak New Zealand.
This is not an Australian product with the currency symbol swapped. A New Zealand organisation gets its own chart, its own tax codes and its own financial year, and the Australian screens — BAS, TPAR, Single Touch Payroll, superannuation — are not hidden from it, they are absent.
GST at 15%, done properly
Every invoice, bill and journal splits GST at 15%. The GST inside a GST-inclusive amount is three twenty-thirds, not a rounded guess. Zero-rated and exempt are separate codes because they behave differently: one is a taxable supply at 0% you claim inputs against, the other is outside GST altogether.
The New Zealand chart of accounts
PAYE Payable, KiwiSaver Payable, ESCT Payable, student loan and child support deductions, ACC levies, an imputation credit account. No PAYG, no superannuation, no ASIC, no payroll tax. Bank fees and interest sit as exempt; rates and government fees as taxable.
IRD number, NZBN and GST number
Your organisation carries the identifiers a New Zealand business actually has, instead of an ABN field with the label changed. The Australian Business Register check is gone: it holds Australian businesses and would reject every legitimate New Zealand one.
A 31 March balance date
Reports open on 1 April to 31 March. GST periods are monthly, two-monthly or six-monthly, with two-monthly as the default, the way most businesses actually file.
New Zealand dollars, Auckland time
Your books are in NZD on Pacific/Auckland time, so a transaction dated today is dated today. Bank accounts take the New Zealand format, bank-branch-account-suffix, and there is no BSB field, because there is no such thing here.
One login, both countries
A practice in Auckland can run New Zealand and Australian clients from the same login, and so can a practice in Sydney. Country is set per organisation, not per person, and switching organisations switches the whole system: chart, tax codes, currency, financial year.
Not built yet
What you can’t do here yet.
Every one of these is real work we have not finished. We would rather you read it now than find it after you moved your business across.
Payroll
PAYE, the ACC earners levy, KiwiSaver and ESCT, student loan and child support deductions, and Holidays Act leave. None of it is built. This is the big one, and it is why there is no sign-up button on this page.
Payday filing
The Employment Information return to Inland Revenue within two working days of a payday. It follows payroll: there is nothing to file until there is a pay run to file it from.
Filing the GST return
You will be able to prepare a GST101A from your books before you can file it from XAIO. Filing direct to Inland Revenue needs their gateway services registration, which takes many months and is under way.
New Zealand bank feeds
No live connections to ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Westpac or Kiwibank yet. Statement import works today; automatic feeds come with an open-banking agreement.
Why there is no price on this page
We won’t sell you New Zealand until it is New Zealand.
Two things have to be true before we take money here, and neither of them is about the software being pretty.
- Inland Revenue’s approval to hold your records offshore. Your data would live in Sydney. Under the Tax Administration Act, a New Zealand taxpayer’s records may only sit offshore with an approved provider. We are working through that approval. Until it is granted, signing you up would put you in breach, not us.
- Payroll that actually pays people correctly. New Zealand payroll has caught out far bigger companies than us — the Holidays Act remediations ran to hundreds of millions of dollars. We are not shipping it until it is right, and we are not charging for it before then.
Where your data would live
AWS Sydney, ap-southeast-2. We name the region out loud because a New Zealand buyer doing a risk assessment needs it in writing, and because neither incumbent names one.
It is encrypted at rest and in transit, every request is scoped to your organisation inside the API, and you can export the lot to CSV or PDF whenever you want. The security page spells out what we do and what we deliberately do not claim.
XAIO Tech Pty Ltd is an Australian company. Which entity contracts with New Zealand customers, and in which currency, is settled before we open, not after you have signed up.
Register your interest
Be first through the door.
We will email you as each piece opens: books first, then payroll, then payday filing. Nothing else.
- Free to register. No card, no account created
- Tell us what you run on now and we will tell you honestly whether we can take it yet
- Accountants and bookkeepers: say so, and we will talk about the practice as well as the client
